Forget what you read.
This is what really happened.
Not long before Bella's eighteenth birthday party, Rosalie cornered Bella for a little 'girl talk.' Bella was wary, but the blonde vampire seemed so earnest and Bella thought maybe she was finally starting to thaw out. But rather than some nice bonding, Rosalie instead informed Bella that Edward in fact had grown tired of his little pet and was simply biding his time, trying to find the right moment to break up with her—or eat her—and wasn’t Rosalie just so sick of it that she decided to intervene.
Bella didn’t want to believe Rosalie, and wasn’t especially inclined to, but her words rang with a certain truth. Edward had been acting sort of strange lately. As she turned the thought over in her mind, Rosalie gave her a sad smile and sympathetic pat on the hand. And easy as that, Bella believed her. Humiliated and heartbroken—as well as a little scared—she immediately went home and started packing, ready to move back with her mother, and far away from the Cullens.
Edward was furious when he had learned what Rosalie had done, naturally, but after Bella refused to speak to him or even answer his phone calls, he started thinking and realized maybe it was for the best after all. So he let her go.
And life went on for everyone, believe it or not.
Fast forward three years. Charlie Swan got badly injured at work, and he was left severely disabled. Upon hearing this news, Bella swallowed her pride and decided to return to Forks to help her father adjust and help care for him. Besides, she figured the Cullens would have moved on by now.
Except they hadn’t.
They were really quite partial to Forks, and things had been going rather well for them in the tiny town. So they had stayed, much to the chagrin of the Quileutes. But they had finally begun talking about moving on. That is, until Bella showed up again.
So now Bella is mad the Cullens are still around, Edward is trying to avoid her, Alice is trying to push them back together, the Cullens are at odds over whether they should stay or go, and the wolves are in an uproar over the entire situation. And don’t forget about the Volturi.
So what happens next? Well, that’s up to you.
